La Crosse Loggers News Release

LA CROSSE, WI -- The La Crosse Loggers (10-10) c (7-13) in front of 3,144 Copeland Crazies on Friday night.

Amidst a momentary rainfall, the Loggers still managed to score two runs in the bottom of the first. Shortstop Brandon DeFazio (San Diego) started things out with a single to left field. Three pitches later second baseman Kevin Zak (Grand Valley State) sent a double over left fielder Jimmy Coady's head to score DeFazio.

On the very next pitch, Michael Katz--who hit two home runs in Thursday night's win over Wisconsin Rapids--took a Derek Callahan fastball to deep center for yet another RBI-double.

Green Bay got one back in the top of the second. With two outs and two strikes, center fielder Robert Youngdahl (Notre Dame) took Reser deep for the first Bullfrog hit and run of the game.

The Bullfrogs struck again two innings later. After retiring four straight following the Youngdahl homer, Reser gave up just the second Bullfrog hit of the night. Coincidentally it was another big fly, this time by Bryant Burleson (Texas Tech).

La Crosse broke the 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning. Zak sent a 2-1 fastball from Callahan out of the park for his eighth home run of the summer. The Grand Valley State product trails just Katz (10) in the home run department this season.

After not walking a single batter in the first five innings, Reser walked three out of the first four batters he faced in the top of the sixth. Ben Cejka (UW-La Crosse) came on with the bases loaded and just one out. The sophomore walked in the game-tying run on the first batter he faced. Tripp Martin then hit a sharp grounded to third, but Nick Day (Iowa) made a terrific play on it and started a 5-4-3 inning-ending double play.

Cejka was back on the mound to start the top of the seventh. After striking out Youngdahl, the righty surrendered a single, walk and RBI double. That would be all for him.

Manager Jason Nell then called upon Cory Ceponis, who made his Lumberyard debut, to get La Crosse out of the jam. A walk to Coady (UW-Stevens Point) set up Burleson for another crucial at-bat. The junior delivered with an RBI single to right that proved to be the game-winning hit.

The Loggers had runners on second and third with no one out in the bottom of the eighth, but only came away with one run.

Both Zak and DeFazio finished the night with two hits and two runs. Zak also contributed two RBI in the loss.

Green Bay will return to Copeland Park on Saturday for a 6:05 game. Gates will open at 5:00 for the contest.
