Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), five-time U.S. Division champions of the Western Hockey League, concluded the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft with Silvertips general manager Garry Davidson, director of player personnel Bil La Forge, and staff making a total of 11 selections of players born in 2002.

In total, the Silvertips selected seven forwards, three defensemen, and one goaltender.

"The way we draft hasn't changed with our approach over the last several seasons," said La Forge. "We're looking for players who fit the Silvertips core values: effective offensive instincts, skating ability, and answering challenges with a great compete level. It's been a part of our foundation with our success. Credit goes to our scouting staff for a fantastic job identifying those players we selected, who fit that mold. We're very satisfied with the prospects we've had an opportunity to select, and we look forward to seeing them in August at the start of training camp, where they can see the benefits of our program, up close and personal."

With their first selection in the draft coming in the second round (42nd overall), the Silvertips selected defenseman Olen Zellweger of OHA Edmonton Bantam Prep (CSSBHL). The Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta native led the program for scoring among defensemen with 32 points (10g-22a) in 30 games, while adding five points (3g-2a) in five postseason games. He carried eight multi point games through the regular season from the blueline.

Zellweger skated in the Alberta Cup (Team Edmonton Blue) and earned a goal and an assist in five games.
