33 Manitobans Chosen in 2018 WHL Bantam Draft

Red Deer, AB. - A total of thirty-three Manitobans were chosen in Thursday's Western Hockey League Bantam Draft in Calgary.

Leading the way was highly touted defenceman Carson Lambos of Winnipeg, who was chosen by the Kootenay Ice with the second overall pick.

The Brandon Wheat wound up drafting three Manitobans - forwards Cabrel Labossiere of Lorrette in the third round, left-winger Owen Weihs of Winnipeg in the fifth and defenceman Tyler Teasdale of Winnipeg in round six.

The WHL bantam draft is the first opportunity for WHL clubs to replenish their systems with graduating bantam-aged players.

Brandon wound up selecting ten players Thursday - four defenceman and six forwards - and wound up dealing its two tenth round picks to Portland for the Winterhawks' ninth round selection in 2019.

Now that the WHL Bantam Draft is complete, the Wheat Kings will begin preparations for this year's spring prospects camp, scheduled for early June at Westoba Place.
