
Pats Make Nine Selections in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft

Regina, Saskatchewan - The Regina Pats Hockey Club made nine selections at the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft in Red Deer, AB. In total the Pats took four forwards and five defenceman and made a total of three trades throughout the day.
The Pats started off their bantam draft making a trade to acquire a fourth round pick from the Victoria Royals in exchange for an eighth round pick in 2018 and a fourth round pick in 2020.
The Pats used that fourth round pick, 81st overall, to take forward Jake Sashnall (6'0, 162). The Calgary product scored 12 goals and had 32 points in 25 games with the Calgary Bisons of the AMBHL in 2017-18.
Regina then completed a trade with the Calgary Hitmen, acquiring forward Justyn Gurney from the Calgary Hitmen in exchange for a sixth round pick in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft. Gurney (6'2, 195), just completed his 17-year-old season in Calgary, scoring one goal and adding three assists in 54 games.
The Pats next selection came in the sixth round, 130th overall and they took right defenceman Daylan Weigel (5'6, 120) from Warman, SK. In 24 games with the Warman Wildcats, Weigel had three goals and three assists for six points.
Regina then took forward Colby Wotton (5'10.5, 141) from Foxwarren, MB in the seventh round, 136th overall. Wotton scored 24 goals and had 24 assists in 33 games with the Yellowhead Chiefs of the WBAAA.
The Pats completed a third trade on Thursday, acquiring an eighth, ninth and tenth round picks in 2018 from the Calgary Hitmen in exchange for a seventh round pick in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft.
With the 157th overall pick in the eighth round, the Pats took defenceman Parker Berge (5'10.5, 147) from Edmonton. In 35 games with the Edmonton CAC of the AMBHL, he scored four goals and had 14 points.
With the first of two picks in the ninth round, the Pats selected forward Adam Grenier (5'6, 130) 179th overall. The product of Coquitlam, BC had eight goals and 25 points in 30 games with the Burnaby Winter Club.
Then with the 192nd overall pick in the ninth round, the Pats took defenceman Marcus Taylor (6', 150), also from Coquitlam, B.C. Taylor played at the Burnaby Winter Club in 2017-18 and scored one goal and added seven assists in 30 games.
In round 10, 201st overall, the Pats took defenceman Jake Johnson (5'10, 150). The Scottsdale, AZ native played the 2017-18 season with the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes where he had three assists in six games. He also played eight games with Det. Compuware 14 where he had one assist.
With the 214th overall pick, in the 10th round, the Pats took defenceman Easton Armstrong out of Los Angeles, CA. With the L.A. Jr. Kings he scored 38 goals and had 32 assists for 70 points in 54 games.
The Pats then wrapped up the draft in the 11th round, taking forward Colby Bear (6', 171), 236th overall. The product of Peguis, MB scored 16 goals and had 36 points in 36 games with the Interlake Lightning.
