Americans Select Lajoie with First Pick in 2018 Draft

KENNEWICK, WA - The Tri-City Americans selected defenseman Marc Lajoie with their first pick (14th overall) in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft, held in Red Deer, Alberta.

Lajoie, listed at 6'2 and 205 pounds, notched 12 goals and 30 points in 20 games for the Northern Alberta Xtreme Bantams. Lajoie makes his home in St. Albert, AB. He celebrated his 15th birthday today by being selected by the Tri-City Americans with their first WHL Bantam pick.

With no picks in the second round, Tri-City came back in Round 3 to select 6'1, 157-pound defenseman Carson Haynes of Taber, Alberta, with the 58th overall pick. Haynes played AAA Bantam for the Lethbridge Golden Hawks where he appeared in 36 games and had eight goals, 24 points and 34 penalty minutes.

In Round 4 (80th overall), the Americans claimed forward Tyson Greenway of St. Albert, Alberta. The 6'0, 161-pound played in 34 games for the St. Albert Bantam AAA and had 21 goals, 47 points and 47 penalty minutes. In 13 playoff games, Tyson had six goals, 17 points and 39 penalty minutes.

Tri-City then used their remaining selections to take Parker Bell (5th Round, 102nd overall), Mason Dunsford (6th round, 118th overall), Benjamin Coghlan (6th round., 124th overall), Paul Minnehan (7th round, 146th overall), Bryson Andregg (9th round, 190th overall), Calvin Osterberger (10th Round, 199th overall), Cole Larocque (10th Round, 212th), Alexander Bonrouhi, (10th round, 217th overall), Matt Dorsey (11th round, 234th overall).

The WHL Bantam Draft is the WHL's talent identification process and serves as the first opportunity for WHL teams to add players to their respective 50 player lists. Eligible players for the Bantam Draft will be 2003-born players who reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

Notes: The Americans' sixth round pick Benjamin Coghlan is the cousin of defenseman Dylan Coghlan. 12th round pick Matt Dorsey played for the 2016-17 Calgary Hitmen of the WHL.
