Sharks can't buy goals at the end of four game home stand

Rewind the Tape:

10.22.08 - Worcester 5 - Hartford Wolf Pack 4 (SO) - DCU Center

Jamie McGinn scored two goals in a thrilling 5-4 shootout victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack. Also adding goals were Cory Larose (game-tying) and Patrick Traverse. Mike Morris added two assists, while Kyle McLaren, Steve Zalewski, and Derek Joslin each notched an assist as well. The Sharks were 1/7 on the power play, while going 7/8 on penalty kills. Thomas Greiss made 21 saves in the winning effort, and denied all four Hartford shooters in the shootout. Worcester outshot Hartford 36-25. Frazer McLaren and Brett Westgarth were involved in fights in the first and second periods, respectively.

10.24.08 - Worcester 1 - Providence 3 - DCU Center

Derek Joslin scored the lone Sharks goal as Worcester came up short in a 3-1 loss to Providence. Ryan Vesce and Mike Morris assisted on the goal. Worcester and Providence met just six days earlier, when the Sharks won 3-2 on an overtime goal by Vesce. Despite the score, Worcester vastly outshot the Bruins 34-12. Thomas Greiss stopped nine of 12 shots. The Sharks converted on one of eight power plays and killed five of six Bruin power plays.

10.25.08 - Worcester 0 - Bridgeport 2 - DCU Center

The Sharks weren't able to bounce back after Friday's loss, falling to Bridgeport 2-0. Worcester was shut out for the first time this season, while Thomas Greiss stopped 18 of 20 shots. Worcester killed seven of eight Sound Tiger power plays and outshot Bridgeport 33-20. Mike Iggulden, the all-time Sharks leader in goals and points, made his first return to Worcester since signing with Bridgeport this offseason.

Sharks in the Atlantic...

The Sharks (2-4-0-0) swim tied for sixth place in the Atlantic Division with four points, seven points behind the first-place Providence Bruins.

Shark Bites:

*The Sharks have nine fighting major penalties this season through six games. Six different players have dropped the gloves already this season (Frazer McLaren (3), Westgarth (2), Moore, Demers, Cavanagh, and McGinn).

*The Sharks have allowed four shorthanded goals in the first six games this season (allowed just 7 in 80 games last season).

*The Sharks have scored the first goal in 4-of-6 games this season (McGinn (twice), Larose, Fenton).

*Worcester has outshot its opponents in all six games.

*Former Worcester Ice Cat, Brendan Buckley made his debut for the Sharks on Saturday's 2-0 loss to the Sound Tigers at the DCU Center.

Roster Moves:

*The San Jose Sharks reassigned forward Brad Staubitz to the Worcester Sharks on Sunday. Staubitz made his NHL debut on Oct. 17 at Anaheim, earning a fighting major on his first shift. He played in three games with San Jose, posting five penalty minutes. Staubitz spent last season in Worcester, tallying 20 points on six goals and 14 assists with 195 penalty minutes and a team-high 19 fighting majors.

*The San Jose Sharks reassigned forward Lukas Kaspar to the Worcester Sharks on Tuesday. Kaspar has played in six games with San Jose this season, scoring one goal (the game-winner Oct. 12 at Los Angeles) along with four penalty minutes and six shots. Last season, Kaspar played in 73 games for Worcester, scoring 17 goals and 24 assists (41 points).

Worcester to host the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Charter Communications!

The Sharks and the city of Worcester will host the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Charter Communications on January 25th and 26th at the DCU Center. Tickets are on sale to the general public now. The 2009 event in Worcester will mark the fourth time since it was revived in 1995 that the AHL All-Star Classic will take place in New England. The AHL All-Star Classic was last held in Massachusetts in 1959 at the Eastern States Coliseum in West Springfield.

Coming Up:

The Sharks will travel to Hartford (Friday, Oct. 31st), and return home for two more games against Manchester (Saturday, Nov. 1st) and Portland (Wednesday, Nov. 5th) at the DCU Center.
