Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... After playing five of their first eight games of the season on the road, the Rochester Americans will now get to enjoy the comforts of home as the Amerks enter a season-long six-game homestand this weekend. The stretch features four divisional matchups, two of which are against the Manitoba Moose, and a pair of tilts with West Division opponents.

Rochester's six-game, three-week homefront kicks off on Friday, October 31st with a Halloween night matchup against the Toronto Marlies at The Blue Cross Arena. The 7:35 p.m. North Division contest will be the first of eight scheduled meetings between the two teams this season and can be heard live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live.

The Amerks were 1-6-1 a year ago against the Marlies and are 10-16-0 all-time against the Toronto Maple Leafs' affiliate. Toronto currently holds a fifth place standing with a 3-3-0-1 record entering Friday night.

That night, the Amerks will host their second annual "Sweets in the Suites," a one-night special ticket promotion designed to work in conjunction with the spirit of Halloween. Children 12 and under who arrive in costume will receive a free ticket to the game with the purchase of one adult ticket.

As part of the festivities, all children can trick or treat during the first intermission of the game up in the suite level and in the main concourse of The Blue Cross Arena. During the game, there will be a costume contest for kids and adults with the winners taking home an Amerks' Prize Pack.

The first 5,000 fans that night will also take home an Amerks' magnet schedule, courtesy of M&T Bank.

Rochester opens its November schedule the following night as it welcomes the first of four visits from the Hamilton Bulldogs to The Blue Cross Arena for a 7:35 p.m. North Division showdown. The first of eight meetings between the two teams will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live.

The Amerks posted a 5-2-1 record last season against the 'Dogs and are 60-46-8 all-time against the Montreal Canadiens' affiliate. Hamilton presently sits in third place in the North Division with a 4-2-1-0 record.

Rochester (1-7-0-0, 2 points) enters the week after collecting a 1-2-0-0 record this past weekend. The Amerks earned their first win of the 2008-09 American Hockey League season, snapping a five-game losing streak, with a 5-4 victory over the Quad City Flames Friday night at The Blue Cross Arena.

Drew Larman (1+1), Kenndal McArdle (1+1) and Tanner Glass (0+2) each recorded two-point nights to garner first, second and third star honors, respectively. Karl Stewart also chipped in with a goal and an assist as Chris Beckford-Tseu made 36 saves on 40 shots to pick up his first win in an Amerks uniform. The night of firsts continued with rookie forwards Shawn Matthias and Michael Duco each scoring their first goals as an Amerk.

On Saturday night, the Amerks dropped a 6-1 decision to the Syracuse Crunch to be followed with an 8-3 setback to the Hershey Bears Sunday night. Jacob Micflikier, who was recently recalled by the Amerks, led Rochester with a three-point performance against Hershey (1+2) to collect his first points in the red, white and blue.

Rookie defenseman Jason Garrison leads the Amerks with five points (1+4) and four assists through the first eight games of the season. Averaging just .71 points per game, his five points currently ranks him 15th among league blueliners and 16th among league rookies. Stewart leapfrogged Tanner Glass with two goals this weekend to become the team's top goal scorer. Duco currently holds the team and league lead with 74 penalty minutes (PIM) with teammate Kenndal McArdle a close second with 37 PIM for second on the team and 11th in the league, respectively.
