Harrisburg Senators News Release
Three Harrisburg Senators pitchers combined to allow just two hits, and Jesus Valdez drove in two runs, as the Senators shut out the Richmond Flying Squirrels 4-0 on Wednesday night at Metro Bank Park. The win gives the Sens the series edge, two games to one, with game four scheduled for Thursday evening.
Andrew Kown (3-4) threw the first six innings, allowed just one hit, and earned the win. Cole Kimball came in for the next two innings, allowing one hit, and then Zech Zinicola pitched a scoreless ninth to preserve the shutout. Starter Craig Westcott (0-1) took the loss for Richmond.
The first run of the game came in the third inning, an inning which began with a single by the pitcher, Kown. He came around to score the run later in the inning, when Richmond third baseman Brad Boyer committed an error on a ball hit by Jesus Valdez. That put the Sens (40-46) in front 1-0 through three.
Two more runs came across in the fifth inning, when Jesus Valdez hit his fourth home run of the season off of Westcott. It came with two outs, and scored Brad Coon, who had walked to begin the inning. Tim Pahuta capped the scoring in the bottom of the eighth inning, when he hit a solo shot off reliever Mitch Lively to make it 4-0. It was Pahuta's seventh home run of the year.
The Sens cranked out ten hits in the ballgame, including two apiece from Valdez, Marvin Lowrance, and Jhonatan Solano. The other four came from Pahuta, Kown, Chris Marrero, and Michael Martinez. First baseman Brandon Belt had both hits for the Flying Squirrels, who are now 41-45.
Game four on Thursday evening begins at 7:00 PM, with pregame radio coverage beginning at 6:45 PM on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com. The pitching matchup is LHP Aaron Thompson (4-10, 5.79) of the Sens against RHP Michael Main (0-1, 0.00) of Richmond.
