Trenton Thunder News Release
Akron, OH- The Thunder gave up ten early runs and suffered their largest margin of defeat, dropping the third game of the series to the Aeros by a final score of 10-2 on Wednesday night at Canal Park. With the loss, the Thunder fall to 52-33 on the season.
The Aeros struck first in the bottom of the second inning off RHP Lance Pendleton, as Matt McBride launched a solo home run over the left field wall to give the Aeros an early 1-0 lead. Further damage against Pendleton came in the bottom of the third inning as the Aeros loaded the bases with nobody out against the right-hander. Pendleton proceeded to walk Lonnie Chisenhall with the bases loaded, putting Akron in front 2-0. McBride followed with a two-run double down the right field line and would later score on a two-run single by Beau Mills, making it 6-0 Aeros.
Pendleton (7-4) would exit after just three innings, and after pitching a scoreless fourth inning, J.B. Cox was tagged for four runs on four hits in the fifth, including another two-run double from McBride, and at the end of five innings Akron led 10-0.
LHP Eric Berger (4-4) picked up the win after holding the Thunder to three hits in five innings of work. The Thunder had the bases loaded in the third inning off Berger, but Daniel Brewer grounded out to end the threat.
Trenton had a total of four hits on the night and scored their lone two runs in the eighth inning on a two-run home run from Justin Snyder off Steven Wright. George Kontos made his 2010 Thunder debut, and he allowed two hits in 2 1/3 innings of work.
