July 7, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - David Bromberg turned in an impressive seven innings to start off the game but Reading tagged him for three runs in the eighth to go on to a 4-1 victory on Wednesday night.
The Phillies took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Rich Thompson led off with a single off Bromberg, stole second, and scored on a base hit by Harold Garcia. Bromberg hit the next batter before he settled down to retire the next 15-straight batters before Thompson (3-for-4) singled to leadoff the sixth. Thompson was thrown out at second, though, and Bromberg retired the next six batters he faced.
The Rock Cats battled back in the fourth when Chris Parmelee's RBI single tied the game. The `Cats took the lead on a double by Jair Fernandez that knocked in Parmelee.
Reading finally broke through against Bromberg when Freddy Galvis and Quintin Berry hit back-to-back doubles with Galvis scoring on Berry' hit to left. Thompson then delivered an RBI triple to right to put the Phillies on top, 3-2. The triple knocked Bromberg out of the game.
Bromberg (5-5) finished with four runs on six hits through 7 1/3 innings. He struck out five and walked none.
Reading's Yohan Flande (6-6) limited the Rock Cats to two runs on six hits in seven innings. Sergio Escalona notched his seventh save of the season after striking out four in two innings.
