Senators Come Up Short

Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Senators again ran into a tough starting pitcher in a 5-3 loss to the Akron Aeros. LHP Ryan Edell worked seven scoreless innings and the bullpen held on to close out the game and the series. The Aeros took three of four games at Commerce Bank Park.

The Aeros jumped out to a 3-0 lead through four innings. Bronson Sardinha singled home a run in the 3rd. Jose Constanza and Josh Rodriguez hit RBI singles in the 4th.

In the 7th, Akron tacked on two insurance runs on a single by Matt Whitney and Brandon Pinckney's sacrifice fly to make it 5-0.

The Senators closed the gap in the bottom of the 8th, loading the bases with nobody out. William Bergolla hit a sacrifice fly and Roger Bernadina and Luke Montz followed with RBI singles to cut it to 5-3.

Harrisburg brought the tying run to the plate with two out in the bottom of the 9th, but Akron closer Randy Newsom slammed the door for his 15th save.

Edell picked up the win to improve to 2-4 on the season. RHP Joe Norrito took the loss in his first start for the Senators.

With the loss, the Senators dropped to 30-12 while Akron upped its record to 27-24.

The Senators hit the road for a three-game series at the Reading Phillies. Game time Friday at First Energy Stadium is set for 7:05 PM with RHP Beltran Perez (1-2) expected to take the mound against RHP Carlos Carrasco (4-4).
