Defenders Fall 10-6

NEW BRITAIN, CT- The Rock Cats laid it on thick against the Defenders in the rubber match as they easily dismissed Connecticut, 10-6.

New Britain hit the ground running after their one-run win on Wednesday. The Cats scored in the second on a single off the bat of David Winfree who plated Brock Peterson from third to make it 1-0 home team.

Connecticut got things going in the top of the third as Olmo Rosario got a one-hit infield single. Travis Ishikawa laced an RBI single two batters later as he came in to score on an error by Luke Hughes at second off the bat of Eddy Martinez-Esteve. After two and half, the Defs led, 2-1.

The home half of the fourth was big for the Rock Cats as they scored five runs in the frame capped off by a three-run homer off the bat of Hughes as New Britain took a commanding 6-2 lead.

The Cats got another run in the fifth as Dustin Martin ripped a single to the gap to bring home David Winfree to make it 7-2.

The Defs showed some sign of offensive life in the sixth inning as Adam Witter blasted a home run over the right-center field fence as Connecticut took a bite out of the lead, 7-3 Cats.

New Britain continued to pile it on in the bottom of the eighth as three more runs came across the plate on three base hits as the Cats' lead ballooned to 10-3.

The Defs made it interesting in the top of the ninth inning as they brought home three more runs but it was all for naught as they fell to a final of 10-6.

Rosario finished 4-for-5 at the plate as he scored twice and drove in one run in the loss. Garrett Broshuis was handed his fifth loss of the year as Anthony Swarzak picked up win number three.
