Aerodynamics...

* Power Surge...The Aeros kicked their offense into gear in the second inning last night and never looked back in their 10-1 drubbing of Harrisburg. Akron hammered out 13 hits, including five for extra bases and two home runs. Eight Aeros had at least one hit, and the only Aero without a hit (CF Jose Constanza) still drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. Akron picked up five runs in the second inning, the first coming off the bat of 1B Matt Whitney, who deposited the first pitch he saw over the fence in left. The Aeros banged out six hits in the inning, including RBI hits from LF Trevor Crowe, 3B Wes Hodges, and RF Bronson Sardinha. 2B Brandon Pinckney trotted around the diamond in the fifth after his second homer of the season, C Chris Gimenez added his own RBI double in the eighth, and Whitney finished the scoring with his second RBI of the game on a single to score Gimenez later in the eighth.

* Ballpark Frank...Lost in all the offense was the pitching performance of Akron starter Frank Herrmann. The 6-foot-4 right-hander rolled through the Harrisburg lineup, scattering eight hits over seven solid innings. Herrmann missed his turn in the Akron rotation five days ago when Cleveland's Jake Westbrook made a rehab start at Canal Park in Herrmann's spot in the rotation. Herrmann remained on normal rest, making a start at Class-A Kinston May 23rd. The Harvard University product used a pair of double play balls to escape mini-jams in the third and fourth innings. He got out of more trouble in the seventh when, with runners at the corners and one out, Mike Daniel lined out to Pinckney, who alertly caught Ian Desmond stranded off the bag at first for Akron's third double play of the night. Herrmann's only blemish came in the fifth as Ofilio Castro led off with a double and moved to third on a groundout. Then with two down, Desmond singled to cut the Akron lead to 7-1.

* Lightning Strikes Twice...It has become a rare occurrence to see the Aeros hit a home run at all, much less, two in one game. With yesterday's solo shots by Matt Whitney and Brandon Pinckney, the Aeros had their first multi-homer game in nearly a month. The last time they had done that was April 30th at Canal Park against Erie when Wes Hodges and Ryan Goleski went deep in an 8-4 win. The Aeros are tied for ninth in the Eastern League in home runs with 32 on the season, and have homered just eight times this month, the lowest in the league.

* Whitnessing...Akron's Matt Whitney, who has been struggling with his bat this month (.195), appears to be getting into a bit of a groove. On this three-game road trip, he has hit .600 (6-10) with two doubles and a home run in three multi-hit games. Whitney is riding a five-game hitting streak, during which he is hitting .444 (8-18) with four RBI.

* Did You Know...Akron is 15-5 when Brandon Pinckney starts at second, and 12-0 when he hits either seventh or eighth
