The SeaWolves outlasted a lengthy rain delay and a late charge by the Curve as they took game one of Tuesday night's doubleheader 4-3 at PNG Field in 10 innings.

The SeaWolves took the lead in the second against Curve starter Cody Bolton. Kody Eaves singled with one out and moved to third on a Josh Lester single. Eaves scored on a Cam Gibson fielder's choice for a 1-0 lead.

Altoona promptly tied the game against Erie starter Matt Manning in the home half of the second. Bligh Madris walked with one out and scored on a two out Jason Delay base hit.

Erie regained the lead in the top of the third. Chace Numata led off with a single to extend his hitting streak to a season-high six games. Derek Hill walked and with one out, Frank Schwindel singled to load the bases. Eaves singled to right, scoring Numata and Hill for a 3-1 advantage.

Manning would exit after a two hour, 27-minute rain delay with a no-decision. He allowed a run on three hits with a walk and a strikeout in three innings.

After the delay, the SeaWolves went with lefty Jose Fernandez. Fernandez worked a 1-2-3 fourth but ran into trouble in the fifth. Delay led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Mitchell Tolman singled home Delay to make it a one-run game.

Altoona tied the game in the sixth. Robbie Glendinning led off with a walk and moved into scoring position on a Mardis single. Delay singled home Glendinning to make it a 3-3 game.

Erie reliever Ethan DeCaster entered the game in the last of the seventh and retired the side in order. DeCaster would go on to fire back-to-back scoreless innings in extras, sending the game into the 10th tied 3-3.

Altoona reliever Matt Eckleman, who worked a pair of scoreless innings, returned for the 10th. Hill was the free runner at second for Erie and with one out, Schwindel sent a rocket off the second baseman's glove, allowing Hill to score on an error for a 4-3 Erie lead.

Nolan Blackwood worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the 10th to preserve the SeaWolves win, earning his first save.
