Erie SeaWolves News Release

The Reading Fightin Phils took down the Erie SeaWolves in walk off fashion Monday night by a final score of 8-7.

Reading opened the scoring in the second inning when Dylan Cozens doubled to lead off the inning. With two outs he was plated on a Harold Martinez double as the Fightin Phils jumped out to a 1-0 lead.

Jesmuel Valentine led the third inning off with a walk, KC Serna followed with a single, and a walk issued to Rhys Hoskins loaded the bases. Dylan Cousins then stepped to the plate and crushed a grand slam over the left field fence to put Reading up 5-0.

Erie would start to climb their way back into the ballgame by plating two runs in the fourth. Connor Harrell was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and was followed with a walk to Jason Krizan. With two men on, Dominic Ficociello ripped a double to center field, which scored both Harrell and Krizan. The SeaWolves cut the lead to 5-2.

Reading answered in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own. Valentine led the inning off with a double to right field and moved to third on a Serna ground ball to the right side. Valentine then scored a batter later on a wild pitch to put the Fightin Phils back up by three.

In the fifth Erie would answer the run when Casey Frawley led off with a triple and was brought home on a Harold Castro ground ball.

The SeaWolves then tied the ball game in the sixth inning at six apiece. Ficociello walked to start the inning and moved to second on a Corey Jones single. With two on, Grayson Greiner lifted his first homerun in an Erie uniform over the wall in left tying the ballgame.

Erie took their first lead of the ballgame in the eighth inning when Ficociello doubled and moved to third on a Jones single. Kody Eaves then grounded in a force out at second base allowing Ficociello to score from third. However, Reading would once again answer in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game back up. Gabriel Lino and Aaron Brown led off with singles and both moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt from Valentine. A Serna ground out to second then allowed Lino to score from third and knot the game at seven.

In the bottom of the ninth with once out Jake Fox crushed a game winning homer to left field to give Reading the victory.

Erie starter Cory Riordan only lasted three innings while giving up five runs on six hits while walking three batters. 'Wolves reliever Adam Ravenelle (0-1) took the loss on the mound giving up the walk off homer to Fox in the last inning.

The SeaWolves will look to bounce back and even the series on Tuesday night in game two of the three game set at First Energy Stadium.
