
Altoona Rallies, Walks off on B-Mets, 8-7

ALTOONA, PA- The Altoona Curve scored seven unanswered runs and walked-off on the B-Mets, 8-7, Tuesday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Jose Reyes was 0-for-4 with a run scored and played six innings at third base. Juan Lagares was 1-for-4 and logged seven innings in center field. The B-Mets four-game winning streak was snapped.
With the B-Mets clinging to a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the ninth, Beck Wheeler was summoned for the save. He allowed a leadoff single to Edwin Espinal, who took second on an error. Erich Weiss worked a one-out walk then Harold Ramirez bounced a grounder to short. Amed Rosario got the forceout at second but the turn from L.J. Mazzilli went wide of first, allowing Ramirez to reach and take second. Pinch-runner Chris Diaz scored on the play to tie the game at seven.
One batter later, Jose Osuna doubled to right-center, scoring Ramirez to give the Curve an 8-7, walk-off win. Wheeler (0-2) blew his first save of the season and took the loss.
Dominic Smith got the scoring started as he led off the second with a solo homer to center. Josh Zeid later singled in Xorge Carrillo to make it 2-0. It was Zeid's first career hit and RBI.
Altoona got one back in the second inning. After Zeid had retired the first five batters he faced, Anderson Feliz yanked a homer to right, cutting the lead to 2-1.
With the bases loaded in the third, Jayce Boyd drove in Lagares with an RBI groundout. Two batters later, Maikis De La Cruz dumped a single into shallow center, scoring Amed Rosario from third. Mazzilli then lofted a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Smith to give the B-Mets a 5-1 lead.
In the sixth, Rosario smacked a two-run single that scored Mazzilli and Reyes, extending the lead to 7-1.
The Curve began their comeback in the bottom of the sixth. Ramirez drove a two-run triple to left-center and Osuna then drove in Ramirez with an RBI groundout. Altoona later recorded four-straight two out hits, including an RBI double from Barrett Barnes and an RBI single by Justin Maffei. The Curve sent ten men to the plate and scored five runs on six hits, cutting the lead to 7-6.
Justin Lakind (3-0) picked up the in after striking out one in a perfect ninth. Mazzilli was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run and Rosario finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.
The rubber game of the three-game series is scheduled for 7:00 PM on Wednesday. RHP Mickey Jannis gets the start for Binghamton against LHP Brandon Waddell for Altoona. POSTGAME NOTES: Dominic Smith hit his third home run in the past five games and has a new career-high of seven for the season...Beck Wheeler blew his first save, he had been 6-for-6...Altoona's five-run sixth inning equaled a season-high for runs allowed in an inning.
