
Gage, Richmond Shut down RubberDucks

Richmond lefty Matt Gage allowed just three hits over six innings, and Brendan Bednar had three hits and two RBI, as the Flying Squirrels dealt the Akron RubberDucks a 6-3 defeat Tuesday night at The Diamond.
Turning Point
The Flying Squirrels (28-49) broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in third against Akron starter Michael Peoples (6-3). Hunter Cole stroked an RBI double, Ricky Oropesa drove in a run with a groundout, and Bednar delivered an RBI infield single to give Richmond a 5-2 lead.
Winging It
Peoples allowed five runs on seven hits over five innings. He allowed a homer to Tyler Horan and a RBI single by Bednar in the second to tie the game, 2-2. It is Peoples' first loss since June 1st. Robbie Aviles allowed one run over two innings of relief and Casey Weathers chipped in a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. On the Richmond side, Gage (4-5) fanned eight over six innings while allowing just three hits.
Duck Tales
Mike Papi drove in a pair of runs with a second-inning double off Gage to give the Ducks a 2-0 lead. Daniel Salters grounded a run-scoring single in the fourth. Bradley Zimmer was 0-4 to snap a six-game hitting streak. Zimmer was ejected by home plate umpire Mike Savakinas after being called out on strikes in the eighth inning.

The RubberDucks (44-35) slipped back into second place in the EL West, a half-game behind Altoona...Altoona got a walk-off double by Jose Osuna to beat Binghamton, 8-7...Richmond's Ray Black earned his sixth save...One of the hardest throwers in baseball, Black touched 101 on the stadium radar gun...Time of games 2:36... The RubberDucks will conclude the series at Richmond on Wednesday night at 6:35. LHP Rob Kaminsky is the announced starter for Akron, and RHP Tyler Beede is expected to get the ball for Richmond. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM, the WARF iHeart channel, and the TuneIn Radio App.
