Hartford Yard Goats OF Raimel Tapia Named to Major League Future's Game
June 28, 2016 - Eastern League (EL1)
Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Hartford, Conn - The Hartford Yard Goats Baseball Club, the Double-A Affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, has announced that Outfielder Raimel Tapia (RY-MEL TAP-EAH) was named to the 2016 SiriusXM Major League Future's Game, which will be played at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 10th at Petco Park in San Diego. Tapia, who is from San Pedro, DR, will play on the World Team, which includes players from 11 different countries and territories outside the United States. The rosters, which were announced by Major League Baseball earlier today on MLB Network's "The Rundown," feature 15 former first round picks. Tapia is leading the Eastern League with 91 hits and ranks third in the league with a .317 batting average and 287 at-bats. The Yard Goats will be one of only five Eastern League clubs to be represented at the SiriusXM Major League Future's Game.
Tapia, 22, has been with the Yard Goats for the entire season and had four hits last night to increase his batting average to a season high .317. The left-handed leadoff man has hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games at Hartford. After batting just .214 in the month of April, Tapia batted .354 in May and is currently batting .367 in the month of June.
Major League Baseball, in conjunction with MLB.com, Baseball America and the 30 Major League Clubs, selected the 25 players currently on each team. Each Major League organization is represented and players from all full-season Minor Leagues were eligible to be selected.
The SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, which is now in its 18th year, features the top Minor League prospects competing in a contest as part of All-Star Sunday. The U.S. Team, which has won each of the last six games, leads the all-time series, 11-6. As part of its live All-Star Week programming, MLB Network will exclusively televise and MLB.com will live stream the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.
