'Dogs Lose on a Walk-Off Inside the Park Homer, 10-9 in Trenton

Trenton, NJ - Tyler Wade hit an inside-the-park homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, as the Trenton Thunder (49-29) rallied for five runs in their final turn, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs (27-49), 10-9, Tuesday night at Arm & Hammer Park.

Leading 9-5 entering the bottom of the ninth, Austin Maddox relieved Taylor Grover and allowed four runs to tie the game. Pinch-hitter Mark Payton hit the first pitch out of the park for a three-run homer. Williams Jerez (1-2) faced Wade, yielding the inside-the-park shot to dead center.

The Sea Dogs pounded out a season-high 16 hits, led by Andrew Benintendi (4-for-5, RBI) and Rainel Rosario (4-for-4).

Trenton's Tyler Jones (4-2) allowed five hits and three runs over two innings, but earned the win for the Thunder.

Portland trailed 2-0 in the first when Kyle Higashoika hit a two-run homer off Jalen Beeks (ND). The 'Dogs would tie the game on RBI singles by Rosario in the second and fifth innings. Beeks worked 5 innings on 7 hits and 2 runs.

In the sixth, both teams combined for seven runs on seven hits. Portland grabbed a 6-2 lead, scoring five runs in 5+ innings off starter Jose Campos. Sean Coyle delivered an RBI single, Rosario knocked in two and Tzu-Wei Lin added a sacrifice fly. Trenton cut the lead to one on Billy Fleming's double and a two-run triple by Dustin Fowler.

In the ninth, the 'Dogs added three big runs on run-scoring doubles by Benintendi and Cody Decker. Jake Romanski added an RBI single.

Taylor Grover worked 2.1 scoreless on one hit and three strikeouts - the only pitcher of the game with a scoreless outing.

The Sea Dogs and Thunder wrap up their series tomorrow night from Arm & Hammer Park, first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. RHP Mitch Atkins (2-3, 4.83) takes the mound for Portland against RHP Chance Adams (2-0, 4.91) for Trenton. Radio Coverage on the U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network begins at 6:40 PM.
