Belleville Senators News Release

Veteran NHL goaltender Cory Schneider backstopped the Binghamton Devils to a 3-1 win over the Belleville Senators Wednesday night at CAA Arena.

Belleville's only goal came from Drake Batherson while Mike McKenna stopped 16 shots. Marian Studenic, Eric Tangradi and Nick Lappin scored for the Devils while Schneider made 22 saves.

In an opening period that was predominantly dominated by Belleville, the Sens found themselves trailing 1-0 through Studenic's fourth goal of the year as the rookie finished off Michael McLeod's pass at 9:26. The Senators may have found themselves fortunate to only be down a goal though as Studenic nearly doubled the lead late in the period as he rung the post on a partial breakaway.

Belleville grabbed its equalizer just 70 seconds into the second period as Batherson buried his third of the year off of a nice Rudolfs Balcers pass after Paul had won the faceoff but the Devils would regain the lead with 7:20 left as Tangradi, who had just seen his teammates kill off his own penalty, buried his second goal of the season to make it 2-1.

After McKenna had made a big pad save on Brett Seney early in the third, the Devils did finally push its lead to two as Lappin scored on Binghamton's first power play of the night as he poked home a rebound past a sprawled out McKenna 4:39 into the period.

Paul Carey and Ben Sexton each played their first game of the season for Belleville. Jack Rodewald and Jordan Murray had their four-game point streaks snapped in the loss.

Belleville returns to action on Friday when they host the Grand Rapids Griffins for the first time. Tickets are available.
