
Sauer Stands Tall in Shootout Loss to Road Warriors

North Charleston, SC - Forwards Trent Campbell and Billy Ryan scored for the South Carolina Stingrays (33-24-4-2), but the Greenville Road Warriors (38-21-2-2) prevailed 3-2 in the shootout at the North Charleston Coliseum on Faith and Fun Night Saturday evening.
Road Warriors forward Brandon Wong opened the scoring at 3:43 of the first period snapping a shot past the glove of Stingrays goaltender Billy Sauer (SOL, 43 saves on 45 shots) from the top of the right wing circle. Defenseman Lee Baldwin added the assist. Forward Tim Coffman made it 2-0 on the power play at 7:27 from forwards Brett Robinson and Justin Bowers. The Stingrays leaped on the scoreboard at 9:38 with a tally from Campbell slapping a pass from forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien past the glove of Road Warriors netminder Jason Missiaen (W, 35 saves on 37 shots). Defenseman Johann Kroll picked the second assist.
The Stingrays tied the contest at 14:10 of the second period when Ryan deflected a shot from defenseman Phil Oreskovic past Missian. Campbell added the second assist.
The Road Warriors fired 17 shots in the third period and overtime, but Sauer stopped all of them to force the shootout. Ryan scored in the top of the first round for the Stingrays, but the Road Warriors responded with tallies from Wong and forward Kale Kerbashian to grab the victory. The Stingrays went 0-for-1 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 1-for-4.
The Stingrays wrap up the weekend with the final Kid's Day of the season tomorrow, Sunday, March 11 at 4:00 p.m. against the Cincinnati Cyclones. Kid's tickets are just $5!
