IN JUST A FEW HOURS...
The Elmira Jackals battle the Toledo Walleye for the first of three times this season, with the opening face-off set for 7:35 p.m. at First Arena. The Jackals pounced on the Trenton Titans on Friday evening on the road, earning a 7-3 victory to maintain their four-point lead over the Wheeling Nailers for first place in the Atlantic Division and to pull within a point of the Gwinnett Gladiators for the Eastern Conference's top spot. Toledo squandered away a three-goal, third-period lead on Friday night in Reading, falling to the Royals in a shootout, 5-4.
JACKALS ATTEMPT TO SET HOME-WIN MARK TONIGHT
The Jackals will try to set a new franchise record in an ECHL season for home victories as they vie for their 22nd win at First Arena in 2011-2012 tonight. Elmira is currently 21-10-0-0 at home, tying the 21 wins it recorded at First Arena in 2007-2008. The Jackals' 37 wins are four shy of their highest total in an ECHL campaign of 41, also posted in their first season in the league in 2007-2008.
MAGIC NUMBERS SHRINK
Elmira's magic numbers to prevent teams currently outside of the playoffs from catching the Jackals in the standings are nine points over Chicago, eight over Reading, and five over Toledo. The Jackals have participated in the Kelly Cup Playoffs in each of their first four ECHL seasons.
