Colorado eventually broke through with the game's first goal at 7:32 of the second period. Joey Sides redirected a puck through the legs of Reid to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead at second intermission. Alaska sent 11 more shots on net in the period, but Jones kept Colorado narrowly in front.

Blair Yaworski held in a clearing attempt with his hand at the left point, walked to the high slot, and let a wrist shot go that beat Jones stick side at 3:18 to make it 1-1. Alaska then took their first lead of the game on a gorgeous play by Dan Kissel. Kissel moved around defenseman Ben Chairot and then deked around Jones, who went for a poke check, to give the Aces a 2-1 advantage at 13:38. The Aces killed a late penalty, and Reid closed the door to keep Alaska in front. Wes Goldie then added an empty net goal, moving him within one goal of tying the all-time ECHL goal scoring record of 368 currently held by Rod Taylor.
