TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Tonight the Cyclones open a six-game swing through the South Division as they play the first of three over the next week against the Gwinnett Gladiators. The teams split a pair of meetings at U.S. Bank Arena last month, giving the Cyclones a 4-3-0 edge in the all-time series (since 2006). Coming into the night, Cincinnati trails Kalamazoo by six points in the North Division standings and own the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race
SCOUTING THE GLADIATORS: Winners of four straight games and six out of their last ten, Gwinnett is atop the Eastern Conference leader board with a 34-17-7-4 record. Other than the Cyclones, the Gladiators sport the most home wins in the East, collecting 22 of their victories at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. There is currently a three-way tie for the top spot offensively on the Gladiators roster, as Pat Galivan, Tyler Murovich, and Nikita Kashirsky all have earned 43 points this season. The Glads also acquired some physicality at the trade deadline, bringing in Jordan Foreman from Stockton; collectively this season, Foreman has amassed 122 penalty minutes. Former Cyclone goaltender Marc Cheverie was reassigned to Gwinnett from the AHL and will reunite with his former team for the first time ever. In 2011-12, the former Denver Pioneer has posted a 4-3-6-2 mark in the ECHL with a 2.99 goals-against average.
About Wednesday Morning in Kalamazoo: Sam Ftorek lit the lamp at 1:17 of overtime to give the Wings a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over the Cyclones in front of 5,093 at Wings Stadium. Mathieu Aubin had his sixth multi-goal game and a three-point day in a losing effort for Cincinnati.
Southern Comfort: The Clones have been the ECHL's best team when playing against the South Division. Of all the teams in the Atlantic and North Divisions, Cincinnati has posted the best record against the warmer- weather foes - going 6-2-0-1 (a .722 winning percentage). Since 2006, the Cyclones have earned a 14-7-2 on the road in the South.
Shutting the Door: Cincinnati has been among the league's elite all season long when playing with a lead. Their 53 goals allowed in the third period of games is fourth-fewest in the ECHL. The Clones are a remarkable 16-2-2-3 when leading after two periods.
Eastern Conference Playoff Race: The top eight teams at season's end earn a Kelly Cup Playoff bid.
