Wheeling Nailers News Release

JOHNSTOWN, PA- The Nailers matched the Florida Everblades goal for goal when it came to even strength play on Saturday night. However, the difference in the contest came via special teams, as three power play goals by the Everblades propelled the visitors to a 5-2 victory at Cambria County War Memorial Arena.

The game got off to a drastically different start than the Nailers' previous two, as they and the Everblades both lit the lamp twice in the opening period. The Nailers started the scoring at the 5:22 mark of the period, when Paul Crowder won an offensive zone face-off to Chris Barton, who ripped in a wrist shot from high in the slot. Midway through the stanza, Florida drew even, as Bobby Raymond fed a long lead pass ahead for Matt Beca. Beca's chance was turned away, but Cedric Lalonde-McNicoll scored on the rebound. 50 seconds later, the Nailers regained the lead. Zach Hansen started a rush from his own zone, skated end-to-end, and scored on a backhander. With 2:23 remaining, the Everblades tied the score on a power play goal, as Mathieu Roy potted the rebound of Mike Ratchuk's initial shot from high in the zone.

Florida's power play was the story in the second period, as a pair of markers on the man advantage gave the visitors a 4-2 lead. The first tally came at the 6:59 mark of the middle frame, as Matt Beca's initial shot was stopped, but the rebound was tipped over to David Rutherford, who knocked in the go-ahead goal. With 6:21 left in the frame, the Everblades netted their third power play goal of the night, as Mathieu Roy snuck a shot through from the left circle.

The Everblades added one more goal in the third period, as Scott Pitt stole the puck, and scored on a wrist shot from the left circle, giving the game its 5-2 final score.

John Muse was the winning goaltender for Florida, making 29 saves on 31 shots. Peter Delmas took the loss, stopping 39 of 44 shots, while seeing his shutout streak come to an end at 146:02.

The Nailers return to WesBanco Arena on Sunday afternoon, where they will face the Toledo Walleye at 4:05.
