Colorado Eagles News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The defending champion Alaska Aces defeated the Colorado Eagles, 3-1, in the first of five straight meetings between the teams, and the first of back-to-back contests in Alaska. Colorado held a 1-0 lead heading into the third period but the Aces were able to come away with the win by scoring a power-play goal and an even strength goal -- both unassisted -- before adding an empty-netter.
The teams played an evenly matched first two frames, with Colorado taking a 1-0 lead at 7:32 of the second period when Joey Sides was able to find the back of the net behind James Reid, who stopped 27 of 28 shots on the night.
Alaska tied the game 3:18 into the third period on an unassisted, power-play goal by Blair Yaworski. And 10 minutes and 20 seconds later, Dan Kissel took advantage of a Colorado breakdown in coverage and notched the game-winner with another unassisted tally.
Wes Goldie inched closer the ECHL's all-time goals lead (now just one shy) to make it 3-1 with just over a minute left in the contest as Colorado had pulled Kyle Jones from their net for an extra attacker.
The two teams will meet again at Sullivan Arena Saturday night before the Aces make their first trip to Colorado for three games next week (Wednesday, Friday & Saturday).
