Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs have placed four players on the 2010 American Association North Division All-Star team, which was announced on Thursday. Outfielder Gavin Dickey, catcher Shawn McGill, and pitchers Jim Paduch and Chris Thompson will join manager Marty Scott for the All-Star Game on July 27 in Wichita.
Dickey is in the midst of a breakout season, batting .299 with nine home runs and 31 RBI. The outfielder from the University of Florida has already set a new career high for home runs and RBI in a season, and has also stolen 13 bases in 19 tries. He leads the Saltdogs in both homers and steals.
McGill will play in his second consecutive American Association All-Star Game. The Lincoln backstop is putting up the best numbers of his young career, batting .347 with eight home runs and 35 RBI. McGill has three different two-homer games so far this season, and his RBI total is tops on the team. He heads to Wichita as the North's starting catcher this season, after appearing as the backup catcher last year.
Paduch, whose strong pitching led Lincoln to the 2009 league championship, is 4-4 with a 3.88 ERA so far in 2010. The right-hander from the Chicago area is second in the league in strikeouts with 68, and his 13 starts are tops in the American Association.
Thompson, like McGill, is making his second consecutive appearance in the All-Star Game. The right-handed closer has earned a league-high 15 saves in 17 opportunities so far, one year after tying the league record for saves with 30. Thompson continues to be nearly unhittable, with opponents batting just .167 against him.
The Saltdogs have now sent four players to the All-Star Game for the second straight season, after McGill, Thompson, Josh Burrus and Phil Hawke made the team in 2009. This year's starters and pitchers were selected though balloting of the league's managers and media representatives, while the reserves were picked by North Division Manager Marty Scott and South Division Manager Talmadge Nunnari.
