Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, KS- The American Association announced Thursday that shortstop Josh Horn and pitchers Nick Singleton and Justin Dowdy have been voted to the North Division All-Star Team.
Horn enters Thursday eighth in the league in the batting race at .366 and will be the North's starting shortstop for a second straight year. Horn has hit safely in 41 of 48 games and has not had consecutive games without a hit at any point this season. The Shelbyville, TN native set a Wingnuts' club record in May with a 20-game hitting streak that dated back to the end of 2009. Horn is third among shortstops with a .966 fielding percentage and has now made an All-Star team in all four of his professional seasons.
Singleton currently leads the American Association with a 2.29 ERA. Singleton is 4-3 on the year in 11 games, 10 of them as a starter. The Montgomery, AL native has allowed two or fewer earned runs in eight of his 10 starts and has started three games in which he has thrown 5.2 or more shutout innings. Singleton was the league's 2008 Right-Handed Pitcher of the Year when he finished the season first in ERA at 2.24 with Sioux City.
Dowdy also earns his second straight American Association All-Star nod. The left-handed closer ranks second in the league with 11 saves and has pitched to a 1.17 ERA in 15.1 IP. Dowdy has 26 strikeouts this season and has fanned two or more in each of his last six outings. The San Diego, CA native has struck out the side four times this season. Dowdy was an all-star last year with Shreveport-Bossier before joining the Wingnuts in a late-August trade.
The University of Phoenix - Wichita Campus 2010 American Association All-Star Game is Tuesday, July 27th at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium at 7:05 p.m. For more information on tickets and pre-game events, call the Wingnuts' office at (316) 264-NUTS.
