El Paso Diablos News Release
July 8, 2010 Fort Worth, TX - The El Paso Diablos dropped a game in the late innings, falling to the Fort Worth Cats 7-3 on Thursday night at LaGrave Field. The Diablos drop the series deciding game and drop to just 1-2 in the second half.
El Paso wasted another good start from Aaron Kalb who pitched seven strong innings allowing only three runs. He ended up getting a no decision after allowing eight hits and striking out three. Kalb who has allowed only three earned runs in three starts in Fort Worth this season is just 1-1 in those games.
El Paso scored their first run on a third inning Bryon Smith RBI single. Jonathan Reynoso made the score 2-0 in the fourth inning when he hit his second home run of the season. The Cats would score the next three runs. With two outs and no one on in the fifth inning Fort Worth would get three hits and a walk to tie the game. They would add a run in the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead. El Paso would come back and tie the game in the eighth inning. A two base error on a Jeff Vincent base hit and a wild pitch would allow the Diablos to tie up the game at three but then things took a turn for the worse in the bottom of the eighth. Two critical errors allowed Fort Worth to score four runs, only one of which was earned. The runs ended up being the deciding factor in the game.
The Diablos offense wasted a lot of good opportunities. They ended the night leaving 11 men on base and left the bases loaded in two different innings. Jonathan Reynoso led the Diablos going 2-3 with a home run. J.D. Reininger, Bryon Smith and Benji Johnson all had two hit nights as well.
The now head to Pensacola for the next leg of their journey. They send All Star Shaun Ellis (7-1, 5.03) to the mound on Friday night. First pitch on Friday is slated for 5:35. Fans can listen to the game online at www.diablos.com.
