Bernal All Star Starter; Diablos also Get Two More

Fort Worth, TX - Three El Paso Diablos were named to the 2010 South Division All Star Team. El Paso native Hector Bernal was the only starter named to the team at second base. Benji Johnson was named to the team as the reserve catcher while Shaun Ellis was named as a pitcher. The All Star game is on July 27 in Wichita.

It is the second round of good news for Hector Bernal. He was named last week's player of the week in the league. Hector is currently hitting .329 with a home run and 23 RBI. Bernal is also tied for the league lead in triples with four. In his second year with El Paso Bernal has seen his numbers rise far above his numbers from 2009.

Benji Johnson who has played just a short time for El Paso was named as the reserve catcher to Pensacola's Lou Palmisano. Johnson has hit .310 with six home runs and 22 RBI in only 25 games. Johnson also leads the league in throwing out runners. Johnson at this point is throwing out 48 percent of attempted base runners.

Shuan Ellis is currently second in the league in wins with a 7-1 record. Ellis has a 5.03 ERA in his first season as a starter and his first season with the Diablos. He has stuck out 39 batters in 53 innings while opposing hitters are hitting .288 against him.

The Diablos are in Fort Worth going for a series win against the Cats. Aaron Kalb (1-3, 4.66) will start against Colin Allen (2-4, 3.81). First pitch on Tuesday is slated for 6:05. Fans can listen to the game on ESPN 1380 or online at www.diablos.com.
