SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Pheasants came from behind for the third straight game to sweep the Grand Prairie Airhogs in an 8-3 victory on Thursday night. The Pheasants bolstered their league-best record to 35-16 overall and 3-0 in the second half of the season.

Sioux Falls is a perfect 9-0 against South Division opponents this year. The series sweep was their fifth this season. All of them have been at home.

Trevor Lawhorn was on the back end of two straight doubles to break a 3-3 tie in the fourth inning, scoring Brandon Sing and giving the Pheasants the lead for good. Lawhorn was 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead all Pheasants hitters.

The Pheasants rode the arm of Travis Kane (2-3), who earned his first victory of the year as a starter. After two singles and a two-run double from Greg Porter in a shaky first inning, Kane allowed just three hits and one run over the next seven innings. In one stretch he retired 12 straight batters faced and 15 of 16 overall. Kane pitched eight innings, allowing six hits and three runs. He did not walk anyone and struck out five.

Beau Torbert gave the Pheasants a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first with a three-run home run, his 12th of the year. Torbert was 1-for-3. The Airhogs Greg Porter responded with a solo home run in the fourth, a mammoth blast off the scoreboard. Porter was 2-for-3 and drove in all three of Grand Prairie's runs.

Kevin Carby pushed the Pheasants' lead to 6-3 with his first professional home run in the sixth inning, a two-run shot over the left-center field wall. An error and a Tim Hutting triple brought in the last two Pheasant runs.

Grand Prairie starter Daniel Schmidt (2-2) gave up all eight runs in six innings. He allowed 11 hits and walked one while striking out three.

The Pheasants head to Lincoln for a four-game series against the Saltdogs starting at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, July 9, in Lincoln, Neb. The game will be broadcast live on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN.
