Saltdogs Capitalize on Wild KC Arms to Take Opener

LINCOLN - It was a long, wild night as the Saltdogs scored the final four runs of the game in a variety of ways to prevail 10-9 over the Kansas City T-Bones in front of 3,496 fans at Haymarket Park Monday night.

Both starters were knocked out of the game in the fourth frame, and by the middle of the sixth the T-Bones were out to a 9-6 lead.

Lincoln scored two in the sixth, a run in the seventh on an error to tie the game, and tallied the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the eighth.

PJ Zocchi struck out Jim Fasano with the tying run on third to end the game and record his 14th save. Jordan Stern (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn his first professional win. Steven Stewart (2-3) allowed two runs in 1 1/3 inning to take the loss.

The Saltdogs laid down three sacrifice bunts and turned four double plays. The T-Bones five pitchers combined to walk 13 batters.

Gavin Dickey belted a two-run homer to left in the fourth inning, his second of the year. Phil Hawke launched a solo shot in to the visitor's bullpen in right, his 11th of the year, to open the game's scoring in the first.

The teams meet Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. for game two of the three-game series. Tim Brown (5-6, 4.48) is set to pitch for the ‘Dogs against Reid Santos (6-3, 5.00) for the T-Bones.
