St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (July 12, 2011) - The second game of the double header ended very similar to the way game one ended. The Saints had the tying run at third base, but just like game one they couldn't score and wound up losing 3-2 on Monday evening at Midway Stadium in front of 3,529 dropping both ends of a double header.

With the Saints down a run in the seventh inning Adam Frost led off with a walk. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ronnie Bourquin. Ole Sheldon's ground out sent Frost to third. Jason Cooper, who struck out in the same situation in game one, drew a walk. Brandon Tripp, however, popped out to end the game.

The Saints took an early lead in the second inning when Cooper hit a solo homer to right, his seventh of the season, to make it 1-0.

In the third the Goldeyes tied it at one when Price Kendall led off with a single and moved to second on a single by Kody Kaiser. Wes Long doubled home Kendall to tie the game at one and put runners at second and third. Brian Myrow then struck out and Jon Weber appeared to give the Goldeyes the lead when he flew out to left and Kaiser scored from third. The Saints, however, appealed to third and it was ruled Kaiser left too early and he was called out.

In the bottom of the third the Saints took a 2-1 lead as Frost doubled, moved to third on a groundout and scored on Sheldon's single.

Saints reliever Kyle Carr, who got the spot start, was tremendous in his 4.0 innings allowing one run on five hits while walking two and striking out seven.

Robert Coe took over for Carr in the fifth, but he hit Kendall to lead things off. Kaiser tripled him home and scored on the errant throw to third.

The same two teams meet in game three of the four game series on Tuesday evening at 7:05 p.m. at Midway Stadium. The Saints send LHP Edwin Walker (3-2, 4.40) against Goldeyes LHP Chris Salamida (6-1, 2.90). It is St. Paddy's Day in July presented by Ryan Companies. The game can be heard live on Relevant Radio 1330.
