Salmon Kings Fall Short in Fresno
December 6, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Fresno, CA - The Salmon Kings and Fresno Falcons met for the first time this season. Todd Ford started in net for the Salmon Kings while Michael Ouzas got the call for Fresno.
The Salmon Kings hit the board first when Chris St. Jacques stole the puck from Fresno's Judd Blackwater at the Victoria blueline. St. Jacques hit Dylan Yeo who had just stepped out of the penalty box. Yeo flew down the left side and fired a puck low on the blocker side past Ouzas. The Salmon Kings extended their lead when Darryl Lloyd created a turnover just inside the Victoria zone. Lloyd found Dan Gendur with a head-man pass. Gendur slipped into the zone and hit Jacob Dietrich with a drop pass. Dietrich let a wrist shot go and it found the back of the net. Victoria led 2-0 after the first period.
Fresno came out on a mission in the second period notching two goals in the first 3:23 of the period. Adam Berti received a Judd Blackwater pass in the slot during a 3-on-2 break and Berti buried it in behind Ford. Just over a minute later Brennan Turner snuck in from the left point and received a pass in the slot and fired it past Ford to tie the game. Fresno would grab the lead at the 12:18 mark when standing in the slot Jarrett Konkle would receive a pass out of the right corner from Adam Hobson and roof a shot past Ford's glove hand for the goal. Fresno led 3-2 after 40 minutes.
Ouzas stood tall in the Falcons net thwarting all 12 of the Salmon Kings shots in the third period. Falcons 3 Salmon Kings 2.
Victoria finished zero for five on the power play, while Fresno finished zero for four. Final shots were 31-27 for the Salmon Kings.
The Salmon Kings and Falcons meet tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. before the Victoria returns to Ontario for the final game of this seven-game road trip on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. The Salmon Kings return to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. to take on the Bakersfield Condors.
