December 6, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release
Dayton, OH- The Dayton Bombers netted five goals in the first period on their way to an 8-1 rout of the visiting Wheeling Nailers, and Christian Gaudet led the team with four points on the night.
On the night of the Bombers annual "Teddy Bear Toss" it was defenseman Tyler Wooddisse who caused the fur to fly, netting his first goal of the year seven minutes into the frame. He was assisted by Dan Riedel and Jim Henkemeyer. Just 59 seconds later Ben Geelan scored from Christian Gaudet and Ryan Smyth. Within another 30 seconds Jarret Lukin increased the lead to 3-0 on his eighth of the season with a helper from Geelan.
Still in the first period Lukin netted his second goal of the game. Nino Musitelli and Wooddisse notched assists on the play. Rounding out the scoring in the first was Smyth, whose sixth of the year came from Gaudet and Joe Van Culin.
In total, the Bombers fired 16 shots on goal in the first period at Wheeling's Curtis Darling, while the Nailers got off 14 shots at Dayton's Tyler Plante.
Continuing the pressure in the second period, the newly signed Brock Wilson scored just 17 seconds into the frame. Gaudet picked up his third assist of the night, while Ben Geelan notched his third point of the game with the assist.
Wheeling finally got on the board at 8:48 of the second when Erik Johnson put the puck past Plante. The Nailers trailed the Bombers 6-1 at the end of two, but were outshooting Dayton 32-23.
Once again the Bombers opened scoring in the third period when Danny LaPointe grew the lead to 7-1 off a penalty shot just 50 seconds into the period. LaPointe was on a shorthanded breakaway when he was hooked from behind and awarded the free pass. Gaudet rounded out the Bombers offensive attack at 13:07 in the third for his team-leading fourth point of the game. Musitelli picked up his second assist, while Nathan Schwartzbauer had his first of the night.
Plante finished the game 46 of 47, while Darling was 22 of 30 for Wheeling. The Bombers went 0 for 2 on the power play and a perfect 4 of 4 on the penalty kill.
