ANCHORAGE, Alaska. - The Bakersfield Condors won their second consecutive game against the Alaska Aces, 4-3, before 6,251 fans at Sullivan Arena in Anchorage Friday night. RW Chad Painchaud led the attack with four points (2g-2a) for the Condors in the win, which moves Bakersfield into a tie for 3rd place in the Pacific Division.
Alaska (13-7-1, 27pts) got on the board first with a goal from RW Cam Keith at 9:34 in the first period. Later in the frame, Bakersfield (8-9-3, 19pts) battled back to tie it on the power play when D Kevin Truelson found twine with a one-timer, set up by RW Chad Painchaud and C Brett Pilkington, who made his Condors debut after being acquired from Trenton on Wednesday.
Just over a minute into the second period, Pilkington netted his first goal in a Condors jersey, and second overall this season, to give Bakersfield a 2-1 lead. Painchaud registered the lone assist, his second of the game. G Ryan Nie stopped all nine Alaska shots in the period, and the Condors entered the final frame ahead by a goal.
Painchaud extended the Condors lead 37 seconds into the third period, stick-handling into the slot and snapping the puck into the net to make it, 3-1. The Aces responded with Keith's second of the game to pull back within one at 5:01. Still trailing late in the game, Alaska pulled its goalie for the extra attacker, and Painchaud found the back of the empty net from center for his second goal and fourth point of the night. The Aces notched a power play goal in the final 30 seconds, but the Condors held on for the 4-3 victory. Nie stopped 31 of 34 shots in the win.
