January 5, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
Martin Rysavy and Team Czechia pulled off a comeback for the ages on Wednesday.
Czechia scored in the final minute to tie the game and then beat Sweden, 2-1, in overtime to advance to the Gold Medal Game at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Sweden led a tight game 1-0 after two thanks to a goal from Ludvig Jansson.
Czechia was finally rewarded when David Jiricek scored with 39 seconds left to play in regulation, sending the game into overtime.
In the extra frame, Jiri Kulich was the hero, scoring 9:10 into overtime to send Czechia to its first Gold Medal Game in over two decades.
Rysavy played a strong game, finishing with two shots and a plus-one rating over 17:52 of ice time.
Czechia will now play Canada, who topped the United States, 6-2, in the other semifinal on Wednesday.
The Gold Medal Game goes on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. CST in Halifax, NS.
