Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Edmonton, AB - Former Edmonton Oil Kings forward Dylan Guenther scored in overtime for Team Canada in the Gold Medal game of the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship on Thursday night in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Guenther scored his second goal of the game, and third point, at 6:22 of the overtime period to give Canada a second straight gold medal at the World Juniors. He was named Team Canada's Player of the Game.
Guenther, an Edmonton, Alberta product, finished the tournament with 10 points (7G, 3A) in seven games.
He becomes just the third Oil King (current or former) to capture a World Junior gold medal joining Sebastian Cossa (2022) and Curtis Lazar (2015). Oil Kings Team Doctor, Dr. Ed Berdusco, won a gold medal in 2020 with Team Canada, while former Head Athletic Therapist Brian Cheeseman was a gold medalist with Canada in 2018. Former Oil Kings captain Mark Pysyk won a bronze medal with Canada in 2012.
Oil Kings import forward Luca Hauf represented Team Germany at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship and scored his lone goal of the tournament in Germany's quarterfinal game against the United States.
Hauf is expected to rejoin the Oil Kings this weekend.
