Ryan Russell Activated from Injured Reserve

MONTREAL, QC - The Montreal Canadiens announced today that forward Ryan Russell has been activated from injured reserve and will be available to play in the Bulldogs' season opening game against the Rochester Americans tonight at 7:35 p.m. at Blue Cross Arena.

Russell, 23, played in 74 games with the 'Dogs last season recording 37 points (19 goals, 18 assists) along with eight penalty minutes. In 19 post-season games in the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs with the Bulldogs, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound centre registered 12 points (seven goals, five assists). The native of Caroline, Alberta has spent his entire AHL career with Hamilton, competing in 178 games and amassing 79 points (41 goals, 38 assists) along with 36 penalty minutes. Russell was drafted by the New York Rangers in the 7th round, 211th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and was acquired by Montreal in a trade with New York.

Hamilton will open its 15th American Hockey League season tonight at 7:35 p.m. when they travel to Rochester to battle the Americans. The Bulldogs will then return to Copps Coliseum to host their 2010-2011 home opener on Saturday, October 16th at 4:00 p.m. against the Toronto Marlies. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on TODAY'S COUNTRY AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. All pre-game shows during 'Dogs home games will be broadcast live from the main concourse at Copps Coliseum.
