Explosive Finish to the Second Seals Pirates Victory

PORTLAND, ME - Mark Mancari registered a goal and one assist and Jhonas Enroth made 27 saves to lead the Portland Pirates to a 3-1 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in an American Hockey League game played tonight in front of 3,003 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Derek Whitmore and Dennis McCauley also scored for the Pirates, while Matt Ellis collected a pair of assists. Portland improved to 3-0 with the victory.

Travis Hamonic netted the lone goal for Bridgeport, now 1-2-0-0 on the season.

The Sound Tigers struck first as Hamonic connected on a power play 2:38 into the game for a 1-0 Bridgeport lead. Whitmore erased the deficit and beat Bridgeport goalie Kevin Poulin to tie it up at one with 11 minutes to go in the first period. The Pirates set off fireworks at the end of the second period as Mancari hammered a slap shot past Poulin with 16 seconds left in the period and then set up McCauley 13 seconds later to give the Pirates a comfortable 3-1 lead heading into the third.

The final shots were 27-27.

The Allied Home Mortgage Three Stars of the game were all from the Pirates. Mancari was the first, McCauley the second and Enroth the third.

The Pirates get back at it tomorrow night (Saturday) at the Cumberland County Civic Center against the Springfield Falcons in a 7 p.m. game. Fans who donate a non-perishable food item to the Good Shepherd Food Bank will receive two free tickets to a future Pirates game. It's also another Bud Light Hockey Night in Portland.
