Hockey for the Hungry Night Returns October 27

Published on October 15, 2010 under American Hockey League (AHL) News Release

The Erie Otters look to "Shut Out Hunger" for their Third Annual Hockey for the Hungry Night, which coincides with the first Buck Night of the season on Wednesday, October 27, when the Otters host the Plymouth Whalers at 7:00 p.m.

Fans who bring a non-perishable food item to Tullio Arena on October 27 will receive admission to that night's game for $2.00. While at the game, fans can purchase Smith's hot dogs, popcorn, beer and pop for a dollar each, adding up to one of the best bargains in sports entertainment.

People can also donate their non-perishable food items at any State Farm Insurance location in Erie. With over 20 agents serving the Erie-area, making a donation towards Hockey for the Hungry is now easier than ever.

Fans can also purchase a donation card for $1.00 with proceeds going towards the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania at the Otters front office on 809 French Street during normal business hours. A dollar donation equals six pounds of food for the Food Bank.

Hockey for the Hungry has raised over 11,000 pounds of food for the Second Harvest Food Bank since its inception in 2008.

New to this year's event is the "Shut Out Hunger" challenge. If the Otters post a shutout against the Whalers, all fans in attendance can redeem their ticket from that night's game in exchange for a free ticket on either October 29 or 30.

Proudly sponsoring this year's event along with presenting sponsor State Farm Insurance are Eriez Magnetics, Greenfield Basket Factory, Meineke, Smith's Provisions, Coca-Cola, and FOX 66.

The Otters complete their road trip tonight in London against the Knights at 7:30 p.m. The broadcast begins at 7:15 with the Toyota Pregame Show on Fox Sports Radio AM 1330 The Fan and online at ottershockey.com courtesy of the James H. Cross Company. The Otters return to action at home Saturday night against the Ottawa 67's for United Way Night at 7:00 p.m.. Fans can purchase tickets through the Tullio Arena box office, online at ottershockey.com, or by calling 814-452-4857.
