
Bulldogs Win Season Opener 5-2 Over Americans

Rochester, NY - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Rochester Americans 5-2 on Friday night in their first game of the 2010-2011 season. The âDogs scored five unanswered goals by five different players while Robert Mayer earned the victory in net.
Rochester opened the game's scoring at 16:54 of the first period while on the power play. Clay Wilson blasted a shot from the point which was stopped by Hamilton starting goaltender Robert Mayer. The rebound bounced onto the stick of Triston Grant, who fired the puck into the back of the net. The Americans took a 2-0 lead at 18:08 with their second power-play goal. Mike Kostka fed a pass to Wilson, who hammered a one-timer shot that sailed past Mayer and into the net.
The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard at 19:35 of the opening frame. Frederic St. Denis dished a pass to Kyle Klubertanz, who was positioned at the top of the faceoff circle. Klubertanz ripped a shot that beat Rochester starting goaltender Jacob Markstrom.
The âDogs tied the game 2-2 at 2:56 of the second stanza while on the power play. Yannick Weber sent a pass along the blue line to Brendon Nash, who fired a shot towards the net. While positioned in front of Markstrom, Ben Maxwell redirected the shot past the goaltender and into the net. David Desharnais gave Hamilton its first lead of the game at 9:43 with a power-play marker. Ryan White's shot was stopped by Markstrom but Desharnais grabbed the loose rebound and whacked the puck past the goaltender.
Hamilton took a 4-2 lead at 9:19 of the final frame. Desharnais carried the puck behind the net before circling around and sliding a pass to J.T. Wyman, who was stationed on the opposite side of the net. Wyman banked the puck off the back of Markstrom and into the net. The Bulldogs scored their fifth unanswered goal at 17:36. Gabriel Dumont hustled towards the net managing to slide the puck to Andrew Conboy, who fired it past Markstrom.
The Bulldogs will host their 2010-2011 home opener when they welcome the Toronto Marlies to Copps Coliseum for a 4:00 p.m. game tomorrow. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. All pre-game shows during âDogs home games will be broadcast live from the main concourse at Copps Coliseum.
