Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y.- The Binghamton Senators hit the ice of the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Friday night seeking their second win of the season over the reigning Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears. The B-Sens floundered though, falling to the Bears 7-1 in a game of firsts. Four Hershey players and a B-Sens forward found the net for their first goal of the 2010-11 campaign.
B-Sens forward Jason Bailey was sent off for tripping at 1:57 of the first, allowing the Bears to capitalize on an early power play. Brian Willsie notched his first goal of the season, blasting a shot past Robin Lehner into the Binghamton goal. Andrew Gordon and Keith Aucoin would earn the helpers.
The Bears jumped to a two-goal lead just past the midway point of the period as Jay Beagle notched his first goal of the season. Lehner made the initial save, but the puck broke free in a scramble giving Beagle the opportunity to poke it into the B-Sens net. Boyd Kane and Sheldon Souray notched assists on the tally.
Just over a minute later the B-Sens pulled within one on the power play after the Bears' Dmitri Kugryshev was called for tripping at 11:32. Hershey netminder Braden Holtby got caught outside the Bears net, leaving a wide open goal for Corey Locke who buried his first goal of the season. Captain Ryan Keller and Bobby Butler added the assists.
With 2:57 left on the clock in the first period, the Bears regained their two goal lead. Willsie's initial shot was turned away by Lehner, but Mathieu Perreault was there to lift the rebound glove-side. Francois Bouchard was also credited with an assist on the goal.
The Bears then jumped ahead by three at 8:50 of the second. Kyle Greentree bumped the Bears lead up 4-1 after patiently waiting to make his move in front of the Binghamton goal, lifting a puck up and over a sprawled Lehner, who moved too early to make the save. Gordon and Perreault each recorded their second assists of the evening on the play.
At 11:47 of the same period, Gordon picked up a pass from Aucoin and skipped a puck through traffic and into the B-Sens goal to make the score 5-1.
The Bears' Bouchard net his first of the season with just 1:34 remaining on the clock in the second to give Hershey a commanding 6-1 lead going into the third period. Bouchard would also be the lone player to score in the third period of play, registering a goal just 2:17 into the final stanza to close out the scoring.
Willsie added assists to both Bouchard goals earning his third and fourth points of the evening.
The B-Sens try to rebound tomorrow in Syracuse as they face the Crunch in a 7:30 p.m. tilt. Fans can listen live on 680 WINR-AM or 1430 WENE-AM beginning 30 minutes before game time for Countdown to Faceoff with Grady Whittenburg, the voice of the B-Sens.
