Rochester Americans News Release
The Rochester Americans (American Hockey League) and Knighthawks (National Lacrosse League) have announced a partnership with Butler/Till for the 2010-11 seasons. The Rochester-based full-service media agency will provide creative development, consulting, site tracking and monitoring, and strategic planning as part of the teams' new social media initiative, "Join the Rochester Nation."
"Social media is certainly the new buzz word and the new buzz of the business world," said Amerks/Knighthawks President Lewis Staats. "We have taken on the challenge of this new frontier head on and in partnering with Butler/Till and dedicating a member of our staff to the social media area we are confident that our existing fans and other supporters will continue to follow what's happening with both our teams and this will in turn provide us with a return on the investment we are making."
The Amerks and Knighthawks are encouraging fans to join their official Facebook, Twitter and YouTube sites to receive exclusive access to contests, ticket specials, promotional information and team updates -- including photos, videos and interviews. As part of their commitment, the Amerks and Knighthawks became the first Rochester professional sports team to hire a full-time employee to handle their social media outreach. Social Media Manager Jessica Baldwin serves as the liaison between the teams and Butler/Till and oversees the implementation of the teams' social media strategies.
"We're extremely excited about our partnership with the Amerks. Jessica and the rest of the marketing team clearly understand the importance of social media within the overall marketing mix. We've already seen a tremendously positive impact as a result of this strategic social media approach and expect continued success as the season progresses," said Michael Deichmiller and Gavin Thomas from Butler/Till.
The announcement comes one day after the Amerks launched a customized Facebook page. It includes YouTube video, a news feed, a Twitter feed, important game information (links to schedule, roster, website and newsletter), and most importantly, a direct 'Buy Tickets' link. To access the fan page go to www.facebook.com/RochesterAmericans .
Additionally, the Rochester Americans have unveiled two exclusive Facebook ticket offers. Fans that "like" the Amerks Facebook Fan Page will have the opportunity to purchase a "Facebook Fan Pack," which includes a T-shirt and a game ticket, in the best available seating area, for just $15. The offer is good for games Monday-Thursday and for Saturday games. The second special is the "Sunday Funday" and features a T-shirt, a game ticket and a Party Deck Pass for $25. Similar promotions and offers will be announced at a later date for the Rochester Knighthawks.
Butler/Till is a full-service media planning and buying agency founded in 1998 by Sue Butler and Tracy Till. Since then, they've grown surely and steadily into a tight-knit team of people that have come from ad agencies, client companies, marketing organizations and other media services.
The Rochester Americans are the second oldest team in the AHL and are in the midst of their 55th season. The Rochester Knighthawks are a member of the NLL and will kick off their 17th season on Saturday, January 8th at Minnesota.
