Syracuse Crunch News Release

Glens Falls, NY - The Syracuse Crunch gave up two goals in a 34-second span halfway through the third period and were held to under 20 shots for the third straight game, falling to the Adirondack Phantoms by a 3-2 count tonight at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

The Crunch came out looking to secure their first win of the season and looking for offense after scoring just three times in the first two games. That did not happen for either team in the game's first 20 minutes.

Adirondack had a great opportunity to grab the lead with a 43-second 5-on-3 advantage when Trevor Smith was called for slashing at 12:55 and Danny Syvret for delay of game at the 14:12 mark, but the Crunch held strong to keep the Phantoms at bay.

Adirondack's Patrick Maroon broke the scoreless tie when he fired a one-timer from the right circle past the glove of Crunch starter J.P. Levasseur just over six minutes into the second period.

The Crunch battled back to tie it at 1-1 at the 13:47 mark when Danny Syvret faked a shot and slid the disk to Kyle Palmieri, who re-directed it past Johan Backlund for his first professional goal.

Just 22 seconds later, captain Joe DiPenta broke the deadlock when he punched the puck past Backlund during a goal mouth scramble to put the Crunch up 2-1.

The score stayed that way until Adirondack scored twice in 34 seconds to re-take the lead on a power play goal from Jonathon Kalinski and a quick strike from Eric Wellwood, who broke in down the left side and put the puck over Levasseur's right shoulder to make it 3-2.

The Crunch pulled Levasseur in the game's final minute, but could not get the equalizer.

The Crunch play host to Binghamton on Saturday, October 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the War Memorial at Oncenter.
