Rush Dealt 3-1 Loss in Only Meeting with Mudbugs

January 7, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL) - Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush fell 3-1 to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Friday night in a rematch of last year's Northern Conference Finals. In what was the lone regular season meeting between the two teams, goaltender John DeCaro made 22 saves for his 99th career win while Steven Crampton had a goal and an assist. The Rush will square off against the Allen Americans in a rematch of last season's Presidents' Cup Finals, tomorrow at 7:05pm in the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Ice Arena. Tickets are still available for the game.

The Mudbugs got off on the right foot, earning a 2-0 lead after twenty minutes of play. The opening tally came at the 12:22 mark on the first powerplay of the game for the visitors. Steven Crampton scored his 13th goal of the season on a rebounded second effort from the goal mouth that was set up by Jim Jorgensen and Justin Aikins. Bossier then dealt the Rush a late blow, doubling their lead with just 17 seconds left in the opening period. Joe Blaznek found a wide-open Shane Hart at the top of the crease, and the forward was able to sneak a shot past Battochio.

In the second period, the Rush were able to get on the scoreboard and cut the lead in half while on the powerplay. Brendon Hodge was able to send a shot through a screen that was blocked down by DeCaro, but the rebound came right to Derek LeBlanc at the side of the net who poked home his 14th of the season. Heading into the third, the Rush were within striking distance, down 2-1.

The Rush outshot the Mudbugs 7-1 in the final period, but the lone Bossier attempt served as the game's final goal. Clay Plume broke down the left-wing side and snapped a shot through the five-hole of Battochio, putting a stamp on the 3-1 win

The Rush are back in action tomorrow to take on the Allen Americans at 7:05pm. Tickets are still available by calling the Rush office at 716-7825.
