Third Period Surge Not Enough to Beat Jackalopes

North Richland Hills, TEXAS (January 7)- The tension was thick enough to cut when the Brahmas and the Jackalopes stepped onto the ice at NYTEX Sports Centre but in the end only one could come away the victor and the Brahmas dropped a 5-3 decision to the Jackalopes at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
Odessa was the first on the board when the Jackalopes Dominic Leveille scored on a power play to take the 1-0 lead with 7:48 left in the first period. Less than three minutes later, the Jackalopes took advantage of another power play when Alex Dunn got another tally for Odessa to go ahead 2-0 at the end of the first.
The second period saw a battle of defenses and goaltenders as both teams were held to a scoreless twenty minutes of play. The Brahmas were unable to convert a power play as the period ended but lead shots on goal 12-8 over Odessa.
The third period was full of action as the Jackalopes offense struck early as only 2:04 into the period, Sebastien Thinel got one past Kevin Beech to give Odessa a 3-0 cushion. Chad Wollard was able to short stick one by Michel Robinson at the 14:42 marker to finally put the Brahmas on the board 3-1. Texas continued their rally when with 11:46 left in the contest when Brahmas scoring leader Greg Hogeboom nailed one past Robinson and cut the Jackalopes lead to 3-2.
The third period continued to see action from both teams as Dave Van Drunen scored off a Brahmas deflection to regain the two goal lead for the Jackalopes with 9:17 left in the game. The Brahmas answered back with a when Hogeboom, assisted by Deitsch and Chad Wollard scored his second goal with 6:33 left in the game and once again cut the Odessa lead to one.
The Brahmas pulled goaltender Kevin Beech with twenty seconds left to gain the one man advantage and try to take Odessa into a shootout, but they were unable to contain the Jackalopes who managed an empty net goal for a final score of 5-3. Texas still leads the season series 3-2.
Although the Brahmas outshot Odessa 29-27, the Jackalopes won the special teams battle with two power play goals.
