Gems Lose to Bloomington in Overtime, 3-2

January 7, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL) - Dayton Gems News Release

The Dayton Gems are making it a habit to have their games go into overtime. Heading into Friday night's game against Bloomington, the Gems had played three overtime games in a six game span.

Friday's game against Bloomington turned out to be another game that needed extra time to determine a winner. Unfortunately for Dayton, it was Bloomington who scored the game winning goal in overtime to capture the 3-2 win.

Jon Booras scored the game-winner for the PrairieThunder in overtime. Just 2:17 into the extra frame, Booras scored his ninth goal of the season and gave Bloomington its fourth win in five games.

The PrairieThunder have now won the last two meetings between the two teams.

At the beginning of the game, the PrairieThunder took an early 2-0 lead. John Snowden and Jon Booras each scored a goal less than four minutes into the opening period.

Dayton didn't waste much time making up for lost ground. Tim Hartung scored a power play goal at the 13:49 mark to pull the Gems to within one. In the closing minutes of the first period, Kyle Bochek tied the game at 2-2 by scoring a goal with just 3:54 remaining in the period.

The game would stay that way until overtime, when Booras recorded the game-winner.

The Gems (16-12-3) will be back at Hara on Saturday night to face the Fort Wayne Komets. The action will start at 7:30 p.m.

The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
