Americans Exact Revenge on Eagles with 6-3 Win
January 7, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL) - Allen Americans News Release
ALLEN, Texas- The first place Allen Americans defeated the Colorado Eagles 6-2 tonight in front of a capacity crowd of 5,289 at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colorado.
Determined to not let last Saturday's loss to the Eagles carry over into tonight's action, the Americans came out with something to prove in the first period, scoring three unanswered goals. Former Eagle Erik Adams opened the scoring 3:28 into the period, one-timing Nino Musitelli's feed from past Colorado netminder Kyle Jones.
Colton Yellow Horn extended Allen's lead to 2-0 2:20 later with a beautiful wrister from the high slot that found it's way into the back of the net. The tally was Yellow Horn's twelfth of the season and third in as many games.
Kip Brennan struck next to make it 3-0 with 9:27 remaining in the period after picking up the puck in the crease and backhanding it past Jones.
Colorado's Steve Haddon scored on the powerplay with 0:04 remaining to trim the Americans lead to 3-1 heading into the first intermission. The Eagles outshot the Americans 10-7 in the opening period. The first period was a volatile one, with 12 fighting majors total for both clubs.
Riley Nelson tipped a shot past Adrien LeMay 4:24 into the second period to make it 3-2 game, but Jarret Lukin would strike on a pass from Judd Blackwater 4:35 later to restore Allen's two goal lead at 4-2.
The third period saw the Americans add to their lead with goals from Tobias Whelan and Dave Bonk at 14:04 and 15:40, respectively. Colorado's Daymen Rycroft scored with 3:51 remaining in regulation to reduce the Americans lead to 6-3, but the Eagles would be unable to mount any further attacks.
Adrien LeMay was strong between the pipes for Allen, stopping 28 of 31 shots in picking up the victory. >>> The Americans move to 24-6-1 with the win and continue to lead the Berry Conference and the Central Hockey League with 49 points. Allen also continues to lead the league in goals scored with 140 and have found the back of the net an astounding 30 times in the last 4 games.
