Royals Slip by Stingrays in Front of Sellout Crowd on Pack the House Night

North Charleston, S.C. - In front of a sellout crowd of 10,535 on Pack the House Night at the North Charleston Coliseum, the South Carolina Stingrays (17-15-1-6) battled the Reading Royals (24-13-1-1) and dropped 2-1 decision Saturday night.

The Royals broke open the scoring at 15:11 of the first period when forward Andrew Johnston knocked a loose puck past the outstretched blocker of Stingrays goaltender Jeff Jakaitis (L, 17 saves on 19 shots).

Stingrays defenseman Andrew Blazek tied the contest with his first professional goal at 1:24 of the second period rifling a shot under the blocker of Royals netminder Connor Knapp (W, 38 saves on 39 shots) from the right-wing circle. Forward Braden Pimm and defenseman Drew MacKenzie added assists. The Royals reclaimed the lead at 10:03 off the stick of forward Ian Watters.

The Stingrays fired eight shots in the third period and were awarded two power plays, but could not find the equalizing tally. The Stingrays finished the game 0-for-3 on the man advantage while the Royals went 0-for-2.

The Stingrays wrap up a five-game homestand tomorrow afternoon, Sunday, January 25 on Star Wars Day at the North Charleston Coliseum at 3:05 against the Florida Everblades!
